UCSF-Secure Wireless Network Configuration for Windows XP

If you have not already downloaded and installed the Windows XP SP2 Wireless Hotfix, please do so now then follow the steps below to configure your laptop to connect to the UCSF-Secure wireless network.

  1. Right-click on the wireless-computer icon on the right hand corner of the task bar and click View Available Wireless Networks.



  2. Click on the Change the order of preferred networks in the Wireless Network Connection window.



  3. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click the Add button to add a new preferred network.



  4. In the Association tab, type UCSF-Secure for the Nework name (SSID) field. Select WPA for Network Authentication, and TKIP for Data encryption.



  5. Click the Authentication tab. Select Protected EAP (PEAP) for "EAP type" choices and uncheck Authenticate as computer when computer information is available. Click the Properties button.



  6. In the Protected EAP Properties window, uncheck Validate server certificate and check Enable Fast Reconnect. Then click the "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" Configure button.



  7. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password then click the OK button.



  8. Click on the OK button twice to close the 2 previous windows. Then click the OK button again to finish adding the UCSF-Secure SSID.



  9. A message on the right hand bottom corner of the screen will let you know that a wireless network connection has been detected. Click on this message to log on to the UCSF-Secure wireless network.



  10. Type in your username, password, and SOM or CAMPUS for Logon domain. Click the OK button.



  11. Wait for a few seconds to allow the computer's wireless network card to scan and connect to the UCSF-Secure wireless network. A message on the right hand bottom corner of the screen should let you know when your wireless connection is ready.
