Access to Wireless Networks at San Francisco General Hospital
Introduction
The School of Medicine provides wireless services to all UCSF faculty, staff, and affiliated parties of the University at SFGH. Listed below are the various types of wireless networks that are currently offered. By accessing these networks, users are agreeing to comply with the University of California Electronic Communications Policy.
- UCSF - this wireless network is unencrypted and is intended for browsing the Internet. A GALEN account is needed to register and permit wireless devices to connect to this wireless nework. UCSF VPN does work on this network for those needing to access UCSF resources.
- UCSF-Secure - this wireless network provides encrypted access to all UCSF network resources and the Internet. An SOM domain or CAMPUS domain account in the UCSF Active Directory is required to authenticate to this wireless network. At the present time, this wireless network is available only in Bldg 3 and the brick buildings at SFGH (please see Hotspots section below).
- UCSF-Clinical - this wireless network provides encrypted access to all DPH clinical resources at SFGH, UCSF network resources, and the Internet. An SOM domain or CAMPUS domain account in the UCSF Active Directory is required to authenticate to this wireless network. This wireless network is available only in the new hospital (please see Hotspots section below).

Timing
As of May 15, 2006, devices with 802.11b/g compliant interfaces can connect to these networks. Currently, the wireless networks at SFGH continue to evolve in collaboration with DPH. This website will be updated with any future developments regarding wireless standards and availability.

Connecting to the UCSF Wireless Networks
Minimum requirements:
- Windows XP SP2 with Wireless Hotfix installed and 802.11b/g wireless network interface -or-
- Macintosh OS X.4 and 802.11b/g wireless network interface
