Sophos Anti-Virus Installation for Windows 2000 or XP

Before you install Sophos:

Insure that you have administrative privileges on the workstation.
Uninstall any pervious version of Sophos on your system.
Uninstall any other anti-virus software on your system.

  1. Download Sophos6-2KXPVista.exe to C:\TEMP.
  2. Click on Start - Run and Enter: C:\TEMP\Sophos6-2KXPVista.exe
  3. At the "Install Sophos 6.5 for Windows 2000 / XP / Vista ?" dialog, click on Yes.
  4. Setup will extract files and install Auto Update, Anti-Virus, and Remote Management System. After a few minutes, a grey Sophos shield icon will appear in the system tray. Once the install is complete, the Sophos shield icon will turn blue.
  5. Double click on the Sophos shield icon to run an update.
  6. If you are running Windows Firewall, create an exception for:

    C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\RouterNT.exe

    Open the properties for Windows Firewall, click on the Exceptions tab, then the Add Program button to add the application indicated above. Click OK and close the Windows Firewall properties window.
