Configure Outlook 2003 using RPC over HTTPs

Requirements

Procedure

  1. Create or modify an Outlook profile. From within Outlook, go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts... Select Add a new e-mail account (Microsoft Exchange Server) or View or change existing e-mail accounts. In either case the profile must have the Exchange Server service as part of the profile. Click the Next button.




  2. Select your SOM account and click the Change button.




  3. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, enter sfgh05.ucsf.edu. In the User name field, enter your SOM domain username. You MUST select Use Cached Exchange Mode. Then click the More Settings... button.




  4. Click on the Security tab. Verify that Kerberos/NTLM Password Authentication is selected.




  5. Select the Connection tab and click the Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP checkbox. Then click the Exchange Proxy Settings button.




  6. For DSL or cable modem connections, configure the Exchange Proxy Settings to match those in the following image. Click the OK button.




    If the computer is a member of the SOM domain and is directly connected to the UCSF network at SFGH, then configure the Exchange Proxy Settings to match those in the following image. Click the OK button.




  7. Click the Next button then the Finish button on the next window. Depending on the configuration you chose above, you may be prompted for your account credentials.




  8. If prompted, enter your account credentials. In the User name field, enter your SOM username in the format: som\username. In the Password field, enter your account password. Click the OK button. Initial synchronization (for either DSL or cable modem) can be very slow so please be patient.
